A WEST Cumbrian theatre group will be bringing the magic of Wonka to Workington next month - as they take on a Roald Dahl classic.
Maryport Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society rehearsals are well under way for their up and coming production of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory at the Carnegie Theatre Workington.
The society's promise is to bring the West End to West Cumbria and judging by past productions of Matilda Jnr And Elf The Musical to name a few, it is clear that they are committed to delivering high quality performances that captivate and entertain audiences, showcasing the talent and creativity of the local community.
Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl Charlie & The Chocolate Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by David Greig.
The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse / Anthony Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture including 'Candy Man', 'I've Got a Golden Ticket', 'Ooompa Loompa Song' and ' Pure Imagination'.
The world-famous Willy Wonka is opening the gates to his mysterious factory… but only to a lucky few.
Young Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a life-changing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka's army of curious Oompa-Loompas.
The production will take place from November 27-30, with tickets available to book online at the Carnegie Theatre or purchase from the Carnegie Box Office.
