THE new Diagnostic Centre in West Cumbria is expected to be completed next year.
In October 2022, it was confirmed that the Community Diagnostic Centre, worth £19 million, had been approved by NHS England.
Patients across North Cumbria will now have better access to MRI, CT, and ultrasound scans. The new facility will be located in Workington.
In a post on social media, North Cumbria Integrated Care said: "Faster diagnostics is key to diagnosing a range of conditions, including cancer, as early as possible.
"If a patient requires more than one type of scan, the Centre will aim to provide them in one visit to reduce travelling and waiting times for diagnoses.
"The project is progressing really well, with the exterior of the build almost complete, work on the roof is almost complete and the building is almost at the watertight stage."
Work is set to begin on the interior of the building with an estimated completion date of summer 2025.
