A new Police and Community Support Officer (PCSO) has joined the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team.

PCSO Dan Snell completed his training earlier this month and will now cover the Workington North area alongside Community Beat Officer Luke McKenna.

He has already begun patrolling his designated area and is set to introduce himself to the community, local businesses, and partners over the coming weeks.

Pete Aiston, policing inspector of the Allerdale Neighbourhood, said: "PCSO Snell will join the wider Neighbourhood Policing Team to understand and tackle issues in the Workington North area such as anti-social behaviour.

"He will work closely with colleagues and our partners in the local focus hub."

The wider Neighbourhood Policing Team's efforts are bolstered by Operation Enhance, an initiative that sees additional police patrols in identified hotspots.

The operation was made possible after Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner secured an additional £1m of extra funding from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund.

These hotspots include the Workington Town Centre, which has been flagged for anti-social behaviour and/or serious violence.

The police are eager to hear from residents and workers in these hotspot areas.

They have encouraged people to complete a survey that can be found at https://forms.office.com/e/srjy010hfq.

David Allen, Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime commissioner, said: "I’m delighted to see a new PSCO join our ranks in Workington.

"PSCO Snell is a brilliant addition to the Neighbourhood Policing Team and I look forward to hearing about his work in the community."
