A NEW day centre is set to open in Wigton with hopes of providing an 'inclusive' support space for all, particularly older adults.
The CommuniTea Hub, founded by Lisa Myatt and Polly Harris, seeks to fill the void left by the closure of Age UK West Cumbria.
With a thrift shop at 'bargain prices' on the ground floor and a cafe/bistro upstairs, the 'welcoming environment' will also be hosting the likes of movie showings and theme nights with live music, groups, workshops and events.
“Since the closure of Age West UK, there isn’t really something to fill that in this area," Lisa said.
“You have pubs in Wigton but not everyone wants to go to a pub on their own.
"Come here, bring a board game, have a cuppa or a glass of wine, and have a craic. It’s something for everyone."
The CommuniTea Hub also aims to be a resource for those facing financial hardship, connecting them with necessary support.
"It was our musings together but without Polly, this wouldn’t be happening," Lisa said.
“I’m hoping it is going to make a big difference to Wigton".
The hub, which will be open seven days a week, also plans to open on Christmas Day to offer breakfast, ensuring no one is alone during the festive season.
Wigton town councillor, Christopher Scott, said: "I am excited to see The CommuniTea Hub's journey unfold and the positive change it will bring to the lives of those who visit.
"It is a beacon of hope in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, and a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a profound difference."
The duo are set to receive the keys on November 15 and are encouraging volunteers to help prepare the centre for its opening on November 30.
They have also launched a fundraiser to help get the community interest company off the ground. To donate you can click here.
