A new social enterprise is calling for volunteers to help plan and oversee developments in Maryport.

Maryport Horizons CIC wants people to assist in managing public and event spaces to attract visitors and boost the local economy.

The first projects will involve creating a business plan for a revamped Carlton Cinema and an outdoor events space near the Aquarium.

Board member Catherine Eve said: "We have seen a lot of development in Maryport in recent months, including refurbished shop fronts, the development of Christ Church into a home for the Maritime Museum, a new skate park on the prom, renovations at The Carlton, and more.

"Maryport Horizons will build on this to attract further community investment with the aim of improving the lives of those living in Maryport and the surrounding areas, and make Maryport a thriving destination for residents and visitors alike."

Ms Eve also mentioned that the enterprise aims to provide a focus for town development, allowing the community to take charge of Maryport's future.

The board will support the creation of working groups made up of community stakeholders to help plan and oversee various projects.

As a community interest company, Maryport Horizons will reinvest any profits into future town improvements and attractions.

The enterprise will also be able to apply for funding from various sources.

Volunteers interested in joining the working groups are asked to contact hello@maryporthorizonssocialenterprise.co.uk.

The new enterprise is part of an ongoing effort to revitalise Maryport, which has seen significant development in recent months.
