FOR this week's Nostalgia edition we wanted to take a look at Workington in the 1980s.

These photos show what was going on in the town forty years ago.

It's amazing to see just how much things have changed in all those years.

This was a time when the first UK Indie Chart is published in Record Business, Alton Towers Resort is opened by Madame Tussauds in Staffordshire as a theme park, the Academy Award-winning film Chariots of Fire released, the twelfth James Bond film – For Your Eyes Only – is released in UK cinemas - it is the fifth of seven films to star Roger Moore as James Bond and the final Bond film to be solely distributed by United Artists, the children's series Postman Pat was first broadcast on BBC1, Depeche Mode release their debut album Speak and Spell, and rock band Queen release their Greatest Hits compilation album; it became the all-time best-selling album in the United Kingdom.

It was also a time when the first purpose-built Hindu temple in the British Isles formally opened in Slough, the Queen commemorated her Pearl Jubilee, the alternative rock band The Smiths formed in Manchester by Johnny Marr and Morrissey, U.S. President Ronald Reagan became the first American chief executive to address a joint session of Parliament.

These photos show what was going on here in Workington at that time. We hope that they bring back some fond memories for some of you who are reading.
