A GROUP of female golfers from West Cumbria have raised more than £4,000 for a vital Cumbrian service in their annual charity day.
Workington Golf Club held their annual Ladies Charity day in the summer, raising a total of £4,200 for the West Cumbria Breast Cancer clinic.
Unfortunately, for different reasons, entries were not as high as last year with only 11 teams entering. However the ladies said that 'a very successful competition was played on a sunny dry day'.
Lots of prizes were available, donated by so many local sponsors and from the golf club ladies who organised raffles, a remembrance tree, and a 'guess the teddy's name' competition. All 18 holes were sponsored by various businesses and members.
The course was decorated with pink flags, tee flags and pink bras of every size and description as 'breast cancer does not discriminate'.
The winning team on the day was Ann Garner, Carole Wilson, Dawn Stamper and Thena Lyngaas (Workington). Second place went to Sadie Cavanagh, Sara Lloyd, June Hardisty, Jill Kelly (Seascale) and third went to Gill Jones, Doris Caldicott, Val Renkin, Julie Graham (Workington).
But the biggest prize of all went to the West Cumberland Breast Cancer clinic in Whitehaven Hospital. A grand total of £4,200 was presented by Workington Ladies vice captain Dawn Stamper and president Doris Caldicott and accepted by Anna Carhill, Ann Groggin, Natalie Walker and Rebecca Talbot.
This follows a donation from the 2023 event of £3,500.
