Temperatures dropped to as low as minus seven degrees in some parts of Cumbria last night (November 19) but the region has only seen a smattering of snow so far this month.
Areas across the UK have been treated to the first snowflakes of the season in recent days but it has so far eluded Cumbria.
And things now are expected to warm up in the coming days, with wetter and windier, albeit milder, weather forecast.
Cumberland Council will offer regular advice on how to stay warm and safe during the winter months.
They will provide gritting updates, tips for car maintenance and live travel info, as well as guidance on energy saving and support for households to ensure that everyone can stay warm.
Winter vaccines will also be available to help people stay healthy during the colder months.
Emergency planning advice will also be offered, including tips to protect your home from flooding, and how to handle extreme weather.
Fortunately, temperatures have risen this morning (November 20), but roads may still be icy.
National Highways severe weather resilience manager, Darren Clark said: “Gritters will be out treating our roads around the clock when ice or snow is forecast, but it is still important to drive to the conditions.
“Keep your distance and reduce your speed, because even in conditions that seem normal, and where the snow is not settling, it can be slippery if ice patches have formed, or where fresh grit has not been worked into the carriageway."
