AN ELDERLY woman was scammed of £250 by cruel fraudsters.
It is reported the elderly victim received a call, claiming to be from her bank, informing her she was a victim of banking fraud.
The unknown offenders then obtained the victim’s bank details and persuaded her to hand over her bank card in person by visiting her home address. They then withdrew £250 in cash and made four further attempts to use the card.
Officers are currently conducting inquiries and an investigation is underway.
It happened in Wigton on November 22.
The public is reminded to be vigilant against scam phone calls from fraudsters.
Remember that your bank, other agencies, and the police would:
Never ask you for your bank account details or PIN over the phone.
Never ask you to withdraw money and send it to them via a courier, taxi, bank transfer, or by any other means.
Never ask you to send your bank cards or any other personal property to them via courier, taxi, or by any other means.
