Trains in and out of Barrow are set to be cancelled for the majority of the week.

A combination of heavy rain and melting snow during Storm Bert resulted in severe flooding in the Ulverston area which is impacting Northern services between Lancaster and Barrow.

All services were cancelled on Sunday, November 24, with it now confirmed that the after effects of the adverse weather will be felt for a while longer.

All lines between these stations are currently closed with less extreme disruption also being reported from Barrow towards Millom, Sellafield and Carlisle.

The Furness Line is expected to remain closed until at least Friday morning (November 29).

A more positive update has since been provided by Network Rail, with hopes that trains will now resume on Tuesday.

A spokesperson from National Rail explained: "Network Rail staff are on site and are working to clear the flood water and make the necessary repairs to the track to allow train running to recommence.

"Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle services via Workington are running normally, however some services may be subject to delay or short notice alteration due to train crew displacement caused by this incident."

Whilst the disruption is in place, Lancaster to Carlisle services will only run from Barrow onwards, with Manchester Airport to Barrow services terminating at Lancaster.
