A restaurant in the heart of the Lake District has been named as the best that the world has to offer.
L'Enclume, the three-Michelin star offering from Simon Rogan in Cartmel, was awarded the top ranking in La Liste's top 1,000 restaurants for 2025.
This is the second year running that the fine dining spot has been given the recognition, the first time that a British restaurant has achieved the feat in the nine years since La Liste was launched.
Simon said: "Once more I’m honoured that L’Enclume has been recognised as the top British restaurant in La Liste for the second consecutive year.
"Being listed alongside restaurants that we admire is an immense privilege and as ever is a testament to the hard work, creativity and total dedication of every member of the team, who are the driving force behind all that we do.''
L'Enclume shared the number one spot with eight other restaurants worldwide: Le Bernardin in the US; SingleThread in the US; Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Switzerland; La Vague d'Or in France; Guy Savoy in France; Schwarzwaldstube in Germany; Matsukawa in Japan; and Lung King Heen in Hong Kong.
Simon was also responsible for helping England claim the New Destination Champion Award alongside Clare Smyth of Core, London, Margot Henderson of Rochelle Canteen, London, and Josh and Victoria Overington of Myse, North Yorkshire.

Simon added: ’For the Lake District to have five restaurants featured in La Liste showcases the culinary innovation that is present in the county.
"We're showcasing to the world what this area has to offer and why the north of England as a whole is at the forefront of England’s continuously evolving and developing culinary scene.’’
Started in 2015, La Liste has grown to cover 195 countries and also now issues a parallel list highlighting the top 1000 hotels worldwide.
With its own scoring system and based on reviews, guidebooks and trusted publications, the list is a handpicked selection of the world’s best places to eat.
