A ‘CONTROLLING’ man who prevented his ex-partner from speaking to certain people was warned he must not attempt to contact her.

Michael Whewell, 20, repeatedly engaged in behaviour that was controlling or coercive, which included multiple assaults and preventing the victim from taking her child to see his father.

He also prevented her from wearing certain clothes and speaking to certain people.

Whewell indicated a guilty plea to engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

John Cooper, defending, said a pre-sentence report would be required due to the defendant’s mental health issues and the domestic violence.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said Whewall was still making contact with the victim via social media and there would be an arrest if he continued with the behaviour.

Whewell, of Harriston, Aspatria, will be sentenced on January 6.

He was granted bail with conditions not to contact the victim by any means, including social media, and not to go to Little Broughton or Great Broughton.
