Whitehaven woman shouted abuse at Derrick Bird victim who lost his arm

A WOMAN shouted abuse at a ‘vulnerable’ man who lost a limb in the Derrick Bird shootings, cruelly telling him the gunman ‘should have finished him off’, a court heard.

Charlotte Jones, 40, was intoxicated as she yelled at the victim in the street triggering the anxiety he suffered as a result of the tragedy on June 2, 2010.

She pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Suspended jail term for Egremont man after dogs injured in fox fights

A FIELD sports enthusiast has been banned from keeping dogs after allowing his three Patterdale Terriers to suffer with horrific facial injuries from fighting with foxes.

Peter Bewsher, 35, failed to seek veterinary treatment for the Patterdale Terrier dogs, which were seized and found to have ‘significant’ injuries including missing teeth and wounds to the jaw. One of the dogs had lost the whole of its lower jaw.

Outlining the case at Workington Magistrates’ Court, Chris Toms, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said police and officers from the animal welfare charity carried out a warrant on Bewsher’s premises on February 14 this year.

Man knocked unconscious by stranger in Joe Bananas, Whitehaven

A PUBGOER had been enjoying a night out with friends when he was beckoned over by a stranger and knocked unconscious with a single punch.  

Rhys Little, 30, punched his victim to the face in a ‘completely unprovoked’ incident in the Joe Bananas pub in Whitehaven on December 30 last year.

His victim, who suffered a head injury and facial numbness, had to be taken to hospital for stitches, and now fears going out again.

Whitehaven student pleads guilty to making indecent images of children

A UNIVERSITY student must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register after he admitted making indecent images of children.

Matei Lungu, 19, pleaded guilty to the following offences:

  • Making five category A (the most serious category of child abuse images) indecent images of a child
  • Making 30 category B indecent images of a child
  • Making one category C indecent image of a child

Man accused of causing death by dangerous driving at Carlisle station

Michael CocktonMichael Cockton (Image: Newsquest) A COACH driver has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a man by dangerous driving.

Michael Cockton, 47, is accused of causing the death of Roger Denwood, who died on December 15 as a result of injuries sustained at Carlisle Railway Station on November 30 last year.

Cockton, of St Helens Avenue, Flimby, is accused of driving a white coach dangerously on the railway station car park.

XL Bully dog spared death after owner failed to apply for exemption

AN XL Bully dog’s life has been spared after magistrates heard there were no issues with the animal’s behaviour.  

Molly Story, 21, was found in possession of an XL Bully dog called Fury at her Egremont home and did not have a Certificate of Exemption for the dog which is now a banned breed.

Story had admitted possessing or having custody of a fighting dog last month and was brought back before the court to be sentenced and hear the fate of her dog.
