Neighbours star Ryan Moloney, known for his role as Toadie Rebecchi, is leaving the Australian soap after 30 years.

The 44-year-old actor has played the character since 1995 and has now announced he will leave Ramsay Street, the Metro reports.

The newspaper reported that Moloney announced the news this morning (June 27), saying: “After 30 years playing Toadie, I will be leaving Ramsay Street.

“I can’t tell you what is happening to the character – maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson. Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep popping back over the years.”

Despite knowing the actor is leaving the show, fans won’t be able to see what happens to his character just yet.

Moloney has hinted that he could “keep popping back over the years” like Harold Bishop but fans will have to wait and see.

As for his future off-screen, it sounds like he’ll be working behind the scenes on Neighbours, reports the Metro.

He added: “Although I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera.

“I’ve just started director training and have just finished filming my first episode as director – so I really hope that you enjoy that.”

Reminiscing about Ryan’s time on the soap, the newspaper recalled “one of his biggest stories” being the time his character Toadie drove off a cliff on his wedding day by accident.

This storyline aired in 2003 and Dee Bliss (Madeleine West), the woman he was marrying on that day, was presumed dead for almost 15 years after.

However, she was actually alive and met Toadie on his doorstep along with their teenage daughter.

By this time, Toadie was settled with his third wife Sonya (Eve Morey), played by Eve Morey and had adopted her son Callum (Morgan Baker) and fathered their daughter Nell (then played by Scarlett Anderson).

It was later revealed that Dee who showed up was Dee’s estranged identical twin sister Andrea.

Her plan was to scam Toadie out of thousands of pounds.

Although he knew that Andrea wasn’t actually Dee, he went on to conceive a son with her and she returned again, this time with the baby and her mum Heather (Kerry Armstrong) plotted to end Sonya’s life.

As if there wasn’t enough twists already, Sonya went on to die from ovarian cancer and missed out on the moment that the real Dee announced she was alive and Andrea was sent to prison.
