Cockermouth RUFC under-14 squad ended their season on a high, as mascots to Newcastle Falcons at their final home Premiership game against Bristol Bears.
Although the result wasn’t what the Cockermouth players wanted, Bristol running out winners 19 – 12, it still didn’t impact on the fantastic experience they had. They were part of the ‘Dream Team’ – walking out with the Falcons. Earlier in the day they had played some great rugby during an end-of-season 7s competition on Kingston Park.
Newcastle Falcons are proud of their Cumbrian connections, with a number of the current first team squad hailing from the county, including Mark Wilson, Gary Graham and Chris Harris.
Cockermouth is a member of the Falcons Club Connections scheme which aims to build relationships helping with player development and developing coaching staff in Cumbria.
Cockermouth coach Mike Swain said: “Another fantastic day for the boys at the Falcons. What a great experience running out with their heroes in front of a big crowd at Kingston Park – inspirational. It’s the dream of some of the boys to play the game professionally. Good luck to the Falcons, I’m sure they’ll bounce straight back to the Premiership for the 2020 season.”
