After the euphoria of last week's win against the league leaders, Cockermouth Wasps Colts made the long trip over to Horden and Peterlee expecting a tough encounter which did not disappoint.
Following a bright start by Cockermouth and against the run of play Horden scored first from an interception of a loose pass.
A penalty by Tom McDowell clawed back three points before a spell mid-way through the first half when Horden scored two more tries from good attacks to take a 17-3 lead. Undeterred Cockermouth dug in and hit back with an excellent try from Thomas Nixon to go into half time 17-8.
Cockermouth dominated the second half in attack and defence with strong rucking providing a platform for the half backs to control the game.
After 20 minutes of the half a burst through by man of the match Nate Lynch brought the score to 17-13 and it was game on.
With cries of "Horden, Horden" from the large vocal home crowd, it was Cockermouth pressure in the last 10 minutes which saw them take the lead with another penalty from Tom McDowell and then hooker Harry Naylor crashed over with five minutes left to seal the victory.
This performance was all about resilience and character, and with a number players stepping up into positions from injuries and unavailability showed the strength of the Wasps squad.
