A women's rugby union team from Cumbria is appealing for help as it aims to finance a trip to the final next month.
Workington Zebra Finches secured their spot in the Women's Junior Plate final last month thanks to an 82-0 thrashing of Amber Valley Tigers Ladies.
The Cumbrian side secured the plate after winning at Twickenham last year, and they are now looking to raise £6,250 to go towards travel and accommodation to this year's final on May 11, which will be held at the Sixways Stadium in Worcester.
The GoFundMe page, which was set up by head coach Chris Davidson, writes:
"We've been around for over 10 years and we're very proud of each and every one of the strong Women on our team.
"To us, rugby isn't just about the sport, it's about us together as a big rugby family and the love and support each and every one of our team give to each other whenever we're on the pitch.
"This year, 2024, we have reached the final of the national Women's Junior Plate - for the second year in a row! This is chance to make history and become the first team to go back to back in the plate.
"We are so proud of each and every player, family member and supporter that has helped us get there, but we need some help to make our dreams come true and get us to that final.
We are asking for donations from fans, friends and anyone else willing to help us get to our final and try to bring home the trophy! Any sponsorship or donations to help go towards travel and accommodation expenses; plus any other additional spends which will be required. Any help offered will be greatly accepted!
"You can also help by sharing the posts on our social media pages, passing the message on to your loved ones and with all the well wishes you can pass on to the players!"
Workington Zebra Finches will aim to defend their trophy when they take on Westcliff Ladies in Worcester on May 11.
