WORKINGTON Town have welcomed their first overseas player into the squad this week, as they announce a Maltese international has boarded his flight from his home in Sydney to start with the squad.

The club have announced the arrival of Maltese international centre Zarrin Galea, who will join the squad this week following his arrival in Workington from his home in Sydney, Australia.

 

Workington Town Chairman, Graeme Peers said: "We would like to thank the Blue Knights support Group, for their significant contributions to ensure these deals went through and the significant work by the Director of Rugby Gary Murdock to overcome visa issues that has meant this player arrives for a huge boost to our season.

"Added to the support given by our 1945 Club members and the Travellers Rest Supporters Club Committee who assisted with flight costs. We would also like to thank a local businessmen who'd wanted to support the strengthen of the squad after discussions about the tough early season was littered with significant injuries.

"The addition of Zarrin will certainly add competition for places and there is another signing to announce that will strengthen us further which will be announced in due course. The squad is going well and we must keep supporting Anthony and his staff so they have the quality and numbers to navigate a tough RL season."

Director of Rugby at Workington Town Gary Murdock said: "Zarrin Galea is a player I have chased for 18 months, a centre who is a dual international with Malta.

"He has also played at a very good level in Australia, a proven try scorer at every level he's played , a powerful outside back with genuine pace." 

The club also hinted at more international arrivals very soon as they say they will 'have further news soon on visa applications'.

The weekend town have a double header at home when Town v Cornwall RLFC at 1pm  and Town Ladies v Orrell St James at 4pm at the Fibrus Community Stadium, Workington on Sunday, April 28.
