WORKINGTON Town head coach Anthony Murray has thanked fans and said he will take 'many happy memories' away from his time at the helm of the Rugby League team.

Anthony joined Workington Town as head coach in September 2022, and has enjoyed a strong two years with Town ahead of his departure announcement in August.

Speaking on his time at the club, the head coach said: "It was always an ambition of mine (to coach at Town) and I'm very grateful that I got the opportunity to coach a great club that is steeped in history and tradition and one that I played for.

"I will leave with a lot of good memories as a coach, just as I did as a player.

"I have really enjoyed all the charity days and all the community days that the club's put on and to play my part in that, albeit a small part, I really bought into that concept."

Speaking about some of his best memories of the club, Anthony said that bringing the Ike Southward home earlier this year 'was definitely up there' as a proud moment for the coach.

Anthony said he 'couldn't thank his fellow coaching staff enough' for the support that they have shown him during his last few years at Workington Town, as well as the players and fans for their support during his time there.

Anthony said: "The fans have been brilliant, they really bought into what I wanted to do as a coach there. I have kept my teams over the last two seasons heavily local, giving a lot of local boys an opportunity to play for Workington.

"That is something I will really take away, and something I am very proud of.

"We have got a really good group of lads (in the team) that bought into the culture of what I wanted to do there, and whether we won or we lost they always thanked the fans by clapping them and then whoever stayed behind you make yourself available to speak to people because I wanted the fans to feel a part of what we were doing."
