Ellenborough just shaded their Cumbria Men's League clash with the other newcomers Hensingham.
In an end to end game, Ellenborough took the win 38-32 at the final whistle thanks to two late tries from Kevin Hoban and John Stoddart, both converted by Lee Birks.
Distington put in a convincing performance to beat Roose Pioneers 56-1.
It was a brave effort from the South Cumbrians as they only had 12 players and were no match for the current champions.
A man-of-the-match performance from Wath Brow's Charlie Tomlinson helped his side to a 54-30 victory over Ulverston.
But Glasson found it tough going against Barrow Island and went under 34-12.
In the BARLA Cumbria County Shield, Aspatria, Flimby, Kells A and Seaton A all moved into the next round.
Aspatria travelled to Great Clifton Lions and sealed a 28-12 win thanks to a commanding first half performance.
Flimby moved on in the competition after their opponents Broughton Red Rose could not raise a team.
Kells A recorded a 36-18 win over Egremont A with Grant Gainford declared man-of-the-match. And Seaton A had the advantage over Lowca to win 30-18.
